I recently completed a 'slow-stitch' textile art collage. Titled 'Riptide', it's composed of hand-painted cotton and linen fabrics in a design that has references to cross-currents, waterscapes, and the bright lights and dark depths one sees at beachside environments. The textile art collage is the latest in a series of water and beach themed textile art.
'Riptide' is 60" tall x 40" in width, in colorfast fabric paints on cottons and linens. The entire textile is hand-stitched and is reversible! This side shows the cross-current design strongly; the reverse side shows the textures of hand stitching and the intentional raw edges. It was a meditative piece to work on and I'm more than likely to be continuing with these.
More photos below: a closeup of this side, and last, the reverse side is shown.
I've put up new Shop pages on this website ; now happy to have Textile Art visible to share in the online gallery. I'll be adding more on that shop page as I create ! Winter always seems to draw me towards creating textile art. Life moves in definite cycles and art-making has its seasonal rhythms, at least in my art practice. On the Textile Art page there are large textile collage and art cloth pieces for wall hangings ; please take a look!
